The work

What people ring about, from the beach to the hills

Each line leads to its own page, with the methods, the questions people ask and what the job involves. If yours is not on the list, ring anyway and describe what the lock is doing.

The patch

Twenty-three kilometres of coast, read south to north

El Campello is long and narrow. It starts where Muchavista beach runs into Sant Joan, passes the old fishermen’s quarter of Carrer la Mar and the port, and ends in the coves of the Carritxal, on the boundary with La Vila Joiosa. Behind it, the town centre and the partidas climb towards Busot and Aigües.

The town hall splits it into six districts, and that is how the list here is laid out. The tram line follows the coast all the way, so a stop name is often the quickest way to tell us where you are.

Every district, urbanisation and village we cover, with what to say on the phone from each.

One call

How a call goes, start to finish

  1. You describe the door

Where you are, which lock it is and what it is doing. A photo on WhatsApp often says more than a minute of explaining.

  2. You hear when we can be there

An honest estimate for your street at that moment, worked out on the call. No number printed on a website could be right for everyone.

  3. The price is agreed at the door

Once the lock has been seen, and before any tool touches it. If you would rather not go ahead, you say so then.

  4. You are left with a door that locks

Opened, repaired or fitted with a new cylinder, and tested with you before anyone leaves.

Before you ring

Three promises you can check at the door

  • Proof before anything is opened

A door, a car or a safe is opened only for someone who can show it is theirs, or who has the owner’s permission. It protects you as much as anyone.

  • The lock comes first, the drill last

Most doors open through the cylinder with nothing broken. When one cannot, you are told why and asked before anything is destroyed.

  • No invented reviews

You will not find testimonials on this website. Why, and where to read real ones.

More about who answers the phone and how the work is done is on the about page, and every way of reaching us is on the contact page.

Asked first

Five questions that come up before people book

Can you cut me a copy of my key while you are here?

No. This business opens doors, cars and safes, and fits and repairs locks. None of the following is offered: car keys: cutting, supplying, replacing or programming them; transponder keys and remote controls for vehicles; cutting, copying or duplicating keys of any kind; spare keys for homes, gates, padlocks or letterboxes; repairs to ignition barrels or ignition switches; keys for motorbikes, scooters or vans. A new cylinder comes with its own set of keys, and that is the only time keys change hands.

Will the person who answers speak English?

Yes. Calls, WhatsApp messages and emails are answered in English or Spanish, and the work at the door is explained in whichever of the two you prefer.

How is the price settled?

On the phone you get an honest idea of when someone can be with you. The price itself is agreed at the door, once the lock has been seen and before any work starts. Payment by cash, card or Bizum.

I live in Busot or Aigües, up in the hills. Is that too far?

No. Both villages are covered, along with Mutxamel and Sant Joan d’Alacant. Up the CV-777 or the CV-775, a pin on WhatsApp saves a lot of searching between the bends.

Does a front door that is only pulled shut always open without damage?

Usually, yes: a latch with no key turned is the easiest door there is. A door locked with the key, an armoured door or a cylinder with anti-pick protection takes longer, and in a few cases the cylinder has to be sacrificed. You are asked before that happens.

Guides

Written for this town

  • Front line and weather

After a Levante storm: sand and salt in front-line locks

A night of easterly wind leaves spray, sand and sometimes seawater in the locks of the first line of homes. What to check the morning after, what to clean yourself and what to leave alone.

  • Communities, tenants and lets

Check-in notes for guests arriving by tram

Most guest lockouts start with instructions written for someone who already knows the building. How to write check-in notes that take a guest from the tram stop to the right gate, the right door and the right key.

  • Getting home

Keys locked in the car behind Muchavista beach

A day on the beach, a car door shut a moment too soon, and the keys on the seat. What to check, what not to try, and what to have ready while you wait for the door to be opened.
