Why so many safes here belong to someone else’s story
A lot of El Campello’s homes have changed hands or changed use in recent years. The town grew by 819 people in 2024 alone, and since 2020 many summer flats have become year-round homes. Safes come with those homes, sometimes locked, often without instructions.
In November 2025 the town also had 1,006 registered tourist lets. Where a let has a safe for guests, it brings its own problems: codes forgotten at checkout, and safes left locked for the next guest to find.

Codes, batteries and inherited safes
The display lights up but the safe ignores the code.
Many electronic safes lock out for a few minutes after several wrong codes, and keep doing so while you keep trying. Leave it for a quarter of an hour, then try the code once, slowly. If it still refuses, ring.
We bought the house and the safe was left locked.
Have the escritura or the purchase contract to hand. Once the safe is open it is given a new code or a new lock, so whatever the previous owners knew no longer works.
Can the safe be opened without destroying it?
Often, yes: through the manufacturer’s override, the emergency key or the electronics. Some high-grade safes leave no option but to drill, and then the lock is replaced so the safe can be used again.
Where should a new safe go in a flat?
Somewhere it can be bolted into a solid wall or floor, out of sight, and not in the wardrobe by the front door. In a let, a separate small safe for guests keeps your own documents apart.
